Metal Roof Installation – What works?

If you are thinking about giving your home or building an upgrade, then there is no need to worry because you have many ways to do so, including a new metal roof. Metal roofs offer a 50+ year lifespan, durability, and energy savings. These advantages have home and building owners considering a metal roof when it comes time to replace their current one.

When considering a metal roof, you need to find the metal roof style that best fits your needs and job requirements. Due to the growing popularity of metal roofing, more and more styles and types of metal roofing are becoming accessible, such as the following.

Metal Roofing Styles

Exposed Fastener Panels

Exposed fastener panels are a good choice if you are budget-conscious yet looking to get all the benefits of metal roofing. It is the most economical type of metal roofing and is normally installed over solid decking and attached with fasteners that pierce through the metal panel into the structure below. If you have a post-frame and pre-engineered metal building, then exposed fastener panels are usually installed over open framing.

Most exposed fastener panels are typically 36” wide which means the roof area requires fewer panels and not as much labor. As a result, they are cost-effective and provide performance you can depend on with an impressive life expectancy. You can find exposed fastener panels in a wide variety of styles and colors, with the fasteners painted the same color as the panel, making them less noticeable.

Standing Seam Systems

If you are looking for one of the strongest styles of metal roofing, then this is the type for you. There are three types of standing seam systems to choose from: aluminum, galvalume steel, and galvanized steel. These types perform the best due to their focus on the seams of the roof. The seams of the roof are typically the weakest part in a roof. Standing seam roofing takes away that weakness by raising the seams above the level of the roofing panel. Also, since there are no horizontal seams, the roof has fewer weak spots.

Metal-Coated Shingles

If you are looking to get that shingle look without the lack of support, then metal-coated shingles might be your best bet. Metal-coated shingles have a longer lifespan (30+ years) than regular shingles. Many homeowners who do not want to deal with replacing their roof in the near future are drawn to metal-coated shingles because of their lifespan. Metal-coated shingles may be costly, but they do have many benefits including their resistance to temperature fluctuations, which is one of the most damaging things to regular shingles.

Corrugated Metal Roofs

Corrugated metal roofs are designed to have panels and ridges which allow them to be durable and have a great strength-to-weight ratio. This means they are able to perform better against environmental elements. Due to being fire resistant, corrugated metal roofs can save homeowners money on their insurance rates because many insurance companies offer incentives to those who invest in this type of roof.
